Robot removal of prostate (da Vinci Robotic Radical Prostatectomy is the latest advance in minimally invasive surgery. Open prostatectomy involved a large incision at the lower abdomen to access the prostate. Large incisions have a risk of infection and require more time to heal, and leave a scar. Laparoscopic techniques access the prostate through a few small holes in the skin, each roughly the size of a key-hole. Through these openings, a small telescope is attached to a camera to allow the surgeon to look into the abdomen. In robotic radical prostatectomy, the da Vinci Surgical system is used. Miniature robot arms move and guide working instruments within the body cavity to remove the prostate. The da Vinci system is designed with different robotic tools that can be changed on each arm as needed. The surgeon guides the arms and is in full control all the time. The system cannot be programmed nor can it make decisions on its own. The da Vinci System requires that every surgical maneuver be performed under direct input from the surgeon all the time. Robot removal of prostate or da Vinci Robotic Radical Prostatectomy is performed under general anesthesia. The patient may be discharged after a few days stay in hospital. Robot removal of prostate or da Vinci Robotic Radical Prostatectomy has been successfully used in thousands of prostate cancer procedures worldwide. Dr Gan is trained and certified to perform the da Vinci Robotic Radical Prostatectomy. UroSurgery Mt. E, Urology Specialist Clinic, Singapore |
